A Good Day to Play Hooky

Today we "shirked our responsibilities" and went to the beach.  It was dreamy.  The northern CA coast is lovely this time of year. No fog, nice sunny day, little wind.  Going on a Thursday was extra bonus because the beach was nearly deserted.  I had a fun time with Deborah, Amy, and Sharlet.

I think we broke the dog, though -- she ran more today than I think she has all year!  I think she is less afraid of the waves now; perhaps swimming in the pond at camp helped that.  She slept almost the whole way home.

I loved the sound of the waves crashing.  I realized at the end of the day that one of the reasons I like it so much is because it cancels out my 4-tone tinnitus.  I think it's the closest thing to "quiet" I'll ever get. I need more of that.

Today I tried to really just be "in the moment".  I didn't take pictures or try to collect shells.  I just reveled in the sounds and smells, the patterns of the water, the way the rocks made little dimples in the sand. I watched the waves crash, enjoyed the sky, and laughed at my silly dog trying to catch birds. I lay on the sand and listened to the melodious sound of the girls giggling mixed with the waves and the wind.  I unplugged.

I walked on the beach alone with the dog for a long time, just exploring and talking to her. I let the girls fend for themselves with the food.  I even forgot that I took some sewing to work on. I relaxed.

It was a good day.  :)

I laughed until I wheezed, and then I kept wheezing. Luna came and pawed me in the back -- I think she figured I was having a seizure.

I haven't laughed this hard in years. YEARS!! Thanks, Allie!

Dress-Up Dolls

Working on 4 sets of Dress-Up dolls today.  Two are for existing orders and two are for future orders.  I decided it would be more efficient to cut out each piece 4 at a time, instead of doing the whole setup individually 4 times.  Does that make sense?

Anyway, I'm just about done. I still need to do the tiny pieces like shoes, mittens, etc, and then make the bodies and applique them to the lids.  Sore hands -- time for a break!

The Etsy shop is going like gangbusters!

We have 10 sales already in our Etsy shop.  Woohoo!

Felt dress-up dolls are very popular, especially with Christmas coming.  I have several in process: one for Daphne, one for Madelyn, and one for Muriel.  Fun stuff!

The felt Christmas dove ornaments are also doing well. Allison ordered 10 to give to coworkers, and Geof ordered 3!

Set of 3 Custom Felt Doves -- SALE

It's fun to see how each one turns out different! I need to find out if my Mom wants more this year for her charity sale.

I've taken pictures of all my ceramics, and now I need to get them posted on the site.  They're pretty primitive; they're not as sophisticated as the wheel-thrown pieces my friends make. Since I'm a hand-builder, I tend to do my pieces pinch or coil, and it shows.  But I like them, so maybe someone else will, too!

Keep on creating!

Love, Rebecca
